The majority of the rectangular beads are Nueva Cadiz-style trade beads, likely manufactured in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries and traded in Africa. The name Nueva Cadiz originates from the site in Venezuela where the beads were first identified, though beads found in the Americas were likely made in Venice and date much earlier to the 16th and 17th centuries, often brought by Spanish merchants.
