A late 19th-century double-sided carnelian intaglio brooch, set with an oval carnelian measuring 2.2 x 1.7 cm in a swivelling mount. One side is engraved with a coat of arms featuring a lion and mural crown crest above an escutcheon initialled SP, with the motto COSMOPOLITE. The reverse depicts a nymph embracing a tree entwined with a foliate vine, beneath a ribbon banner inscribed SEMPER FIDELIS, meaning always faithful. The gold frame is engraved with foliate scrollwork, and the brooch features a base metal pin. Length 3.5 cm, gross weight approximately 11.20 g.Condition
